What You'll Learn

Six hands-on modules designed to take you from curious beginner to launch-ready innovator.

Module 1: Foundations of 3D Printing

3 weeks
  • Filament types — PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU: when to use each
  • Anatomy of a 3D printer — extruder, bed, stepper motors, hotend
  • Slicing software fundamentals (Cura, PrusaSlicer)
  • Calibration, levelling, and first-print troubleshooting
  • Post-processing: sanding, painting, and finishing techniques
Prerequisites: No prior experience required.

Module 2: CAD & 3D Modeling

4 weeks
  • Introduction to Fusion 360 — workspace, tools, and constraints
  • FreeCAD for open-source design workflows
  • Design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles
  • Creating parametric parts for functional prototypes
  • Exporting STL/STEP files and working with existing models
Prerequisites: Requires completion of Module 1 or basic 3D printing familiarity.

Module 3: Rapid Prototyping

3 weeks
  • Iterative design methodology — build, test, improve cycles
  • Understanding tolerances and fit (clearance, interference)
  • Multi-material and multi-component assemblies
  • Integrating hardware (bolts, inserts, electronics) into printed parts
  • Advanced post-processing: vapour smoothing, painting, plating
Prerequisites: Requires Modules 1 and 2.

Module 4: Robotics & Automation Basics

4 weeks
  • Arduino and ESP32 — setup, GPIO, and first programmes
  • Sensors: ultrasonic, IR, DHT22, IMU, camera modules
  • Actuators: servo motors, stepper motors, relay modules
  • Building simple robots: line follower, obstacle avoider
  • IoT connectivity: Wi-Fi, MQTT, basic cloud dashboards
Prerequisites: Basic understanding of electronics is helpful but not required.

Module 5: Product Development & Business

3 weeks
  • MVP scoping: defining the smallest useful version of your product
  • Costing a hardware product (BOM, manufacturing, margin)
  • Market validation: customer interviews, landing pages, waitlists
  • Sourcing components in Cameroon and globally (Aliexpress, Digi-Key)
  • Introduction to intellectual property and design protection
Prerequisites: No technical prerequisites — best taken alongside Modules 3 or 4.

Module 6: Launch & Scale

2 weeks
  • Pitching hardware startups to investors and grant bodies
  • Grant applications: Tony Elumelu, Mastercard Foundation, YEP
  • Maker communities: Fab Labs, Hackerspaces, PlastiBytes Network
  • Social media and content marketing for hardware brands
  • Licensing vs manufacturing: building sustainable revenue models
Prerequisites: Requires Module 5 or concurrent enrollment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before enrolling.

Do I need prior experience?
Not at all. Our Free and Student tiers are designed to welcome complete beginners. If you have some experience, you'll be placed into the appropriate module based on your experience level selection during enrollment.
What equipment do I need?
For the CAD and software modules, you need a computer (Windows, Mac, or Linux — minimum 8GB RAM). For hands-on 3D printing, you can use PlastiBytes' facility in Buea or we'll guide you to a local maker space. Pro members get priority access to our equipment.
How are the mentorship calls conducted?
Group calls are held via Google Meet or Zoom and are recorded for replay. 1-on-1 sessions (Pro tier) are conducted via Google Meet with optional WhatsApp follow-up. All sessions are in English and/or French as needed.
Can I switch tiers?
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade your tier at any time by contacting the team. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades take effect at the next billing cycle. Unused portions are not refunded on downgrade.
Is the certificate internationally recognised?
Our Certificate of Participation is issued by PlastiBytes and recognised within our partner network. While it is not currently accredited by a government body, it carries significant weight with regional employers, accelerators, and grant programs who partner with us.
Do you offer group or school discounts?
Yes! We offer custom packages for universities, secondary schools, and youth organisations. Contact us at info@plastibytes.com with the subject "Group Mentorship" and we'll design a program for your institution.
What is the refund policy?
We offer a 7-day money-back guarantee from your first billing date if you are not satisfied. After 7 days, subscriptions are non-refundable but can be paused for up to 3 months. Contact the team directly to process a refund or pause.
How do I pay?
We accept MTN Mobile Money, Orange Money, bank transfer (UBA / Ecobank Cameroon), and international card payments via Stripe. Payment instructions are sent to your email after enrollment confirmation.
